BEST BEACHES (IN OUR OPINION!) IN NO PARTICULAR
ORDER.
There are no disappointing beaches in west Wales but these are
our favourites:
Poppit Sands – Wide sandy estuarine beach in North Pembrokeshire.
Follow the B4546.
Newport Sands –Large sandy beach in North Pembrokeshire
backed by dunes and a golf course. Large car park.
Abermawr – Large impressive bay backed by pebble bank.
The beach is well signposted from the crossroads on the A487
about a mile east of Mathry. The road is narrow and parking limited
Whitesands –Large sandy beach in North Pembrokeshire. Car
park busy in the summer. Follow signs from St Davids.
Newgale – Large exposed sandy beach banked by pebbles along
its length. Follow A487 from Haverfordwest. Plenty of car parks.
Marloes – Isolated stretch of sand with rocky outcrops
along its length. Head for Marloes on the B4327 and just before
the village turn off to Marloes Mere. Beach 1km walk from car
park.
Freshwater West –Long sandy beach, very popular with surfers.
From Pembroke, take the A4319. Car park on top of cliff.
Barafundle –Beautiful secluded beach owned by the National
Trust. Turn off from road between Stackpole and Freshwater East
leading to Stackpole Quay. I mile walk from car park.
Broadhaven- south – Beautiful enclosed sandy bay. Follow
signposts for Bosheston. Car park above beach.
Tenby – three sandy beaches to explore!
Pendine Sands – 7 mile long sandy beach along the coast
from Amroth. Village and car park.
Cefn Sidan – The longest beach in Wales and situated in
west Carmarthenshire. Beautiful sandy beach with wonderful views
of north Gower. Follow signs for Pembrey Country Park. Ample
car parking.
